Despite a busy work schedule during the summer months of 2025, I was lucky enough to photograph a rehearsal of the production ‘His Last Report’ performed at York Theatre Royal through their volunteer photography group. As these photos are capturing moments from the play, I am unable to share any of them. However, I found this to be a very valuable and enjoyable experience.

It allowed me to practice with finding the best angles and positionings in the space whilst not disrupting the rehearsal. I had to adapt, finding the best camera settings to capture the moment, in the moment. I also experimented with the editing, finding the best approach to add to the images. When shooting in the space, I looked for interesting ways to capture smaller details and interactions in the room. My favourite approach being to find unique angles that catch the eye and I made use of depth of field to capture those deatils, simultaneously sharing the bigger picture.

I thoroughly enjoyed this experience, I was fascinated by what was happening in the room around me. It was a privilege to see the early stages of the production, and to be surrounded by such talent and creativity. It’s a side of the industry I’ve not spent much time in, but given the opportunity, I’d love to spend more time in.
